  2. Match 25 marks the seventh and final match of the inert Ticket's tour of league opponents while using only five guys. Incredibly, he stands at 3-3 during that stretch and has actually moved up in the standings to second place. (Now I've truly seen everything.)

Nonetheless, there was a recent summit of high-level administrators at the League Office, where a discussion took place about how we should proceed over the final 10 matches with regard to this matter.

It seems to me we have two choices: 1)We can leave Ticket as is on the theory that all opponents have an equal chance of beating or being beaten by him, or 2) we can replace his output for some or all of the final 10 matches (more on this later) with Kontrol, the league scoring average for each match minus his opponent's score.

My suspicion is that most of us would vote to just leave his squad in its current state, which is fine. The problem is what happens if he is to reappear and retake control of his team. We can't have, say, four teams play the five-man version and three others face a full-strength squad. Wouldn't be fair.

We probably don't want to involve Kontrol, either. Apart from the extra work for Mark, the league average will create a formidable opponent, mostly due to the Invaders' season-long scoring rampage, although, in fairness, there is a way to insure that everyone takes on that monster the same number of times.

Here's my suggestion, and it's based on the seeming reality that Tom is not coming back anytime soon. Whatever we decide, we have to lock it in for the next seven matches. That means, even if Tom returns during that time, he will not be allowed to manage his lineup, otherwise you would have opponents randomly facing what are essentially two different teams, one obviously stronger than the other.

What I can't figure out is what we would then do with Ticket's final three opponents of the season? How do we not advantage or disadvantage them by allowing/forcing them to play one version of Ticket rather than the other? If Tom is back by then, he could manage the team for those three matches and every team will have played on a level field. If not, what?

You guys get what I'm saying?

I say we buy ourselves some time by voting on Plan 1 or Plan 2 for the next seven matches. It locks Tom out, but we gotta do what we gotta do.

More like Plan 9. From outer space.

  3. E Team gets 73 from Westbrook and Aldridge, down from the 136 of two nights earlier, but manages to beat back Alt-Delete 224-196.

Cool partial scores on the board. I like that feature. We should probably only authorize Mark to do that, right? Otherwise god knows what will get posted up there.
    But yeah. That's awesome.

    1. The scores aren't editable. So only Mark is scoring.

  5. Let's all agree to replace Paul for Ticket with the logical pg backup and let him go robot...he's still stuck with Tyreke and AD/Capela/Gobert etc gives him a fighting chance every game. Let's not revert to kontrol when there's a roster with flesh and blood players we can use

  6. Wingos like Invaders suggestion of letting Ticket play Paul logical backup, vote for it (Plan C from Planet Oakland).

  7. Embiid had 41 today so Invaders defeat Swat 270-204 the 270 takes MHS looks like everyone except Tom is on here now

    1. Mark, Embiid wouldn't have a second chance, it would go to backup and your backup DNPed too.

  8. Okay, that's an idea, but hold the phone. Here's some things to consider:

Chris Paul's logical backups, in descending order...

Booker: Day to day. May miss several more games.
Dragic: Arthroscopic surgery this week. Out for months.
Teague: Ankle issues. Out for upcoming game. Uncertain.

And Paul may be back as early as the 22nd. Next week. Or not.

In other words, there is really no way to guarantee a level playing field for Ticket's next round of seven opponents by messing or not messing with his lineup. If Paul comes back on Tuesday of next week, Tom's next two opponents catch a break. If it's a week later, two more teams get lucky. Etc.

The only way to ensure everybody gets about the same version of Ticket is to lock in a fixed score, but what would it be? His average when he had six guys (203)? His average since he went five-man (184)? And what if he were to suddenly reappear and want to run his team?

And here's another thing to consider. The Invaders are going to win the regular season title. Tom's two closest competitors for the remaining three Big Dance spots, Wingo and Swat, are 194.7 and 194.4 over the last seven. We artificially add 20 fp's to Ticket's current output and he may actually be in the best position to hold off the fifth-place E Team, which is one game away from fourth place, has won five straight, and is 215.9 over the last seven.

We're gonna do some random engineering and put a team with an absentee owner in the playoffs? Really? Tom may have put together a Top Four team on draft night - his talent for this stuff is a matter of record - but you also have to manage your team. His competitors are still doing that. That matters.

I say we do exactly what we've been doing and leave Ticket as is for the next seven matches. It's kind of the least unnatural thing to do. It's the lineup Tom left us. The less we interfere, the better. Paul comes back when he comes back.

    That's my vote.

  9. Wingos play Ticket next either Dragic or Teague are the 1 spot reserves I believe Dragic is hurt so it would be Teague for the next 7 games? I posed this question under Match 26 lineup heading as well

  10. I wrote the above before reading Eric's post if Teague is hurt then logically he's right it's Paul and is Booker a 1? If so then he's the choice he's the 2nd best guy on Ticket roster but since it's uncertain if any of the 4 point guys will be healthy soon I suppose we should leave him alone with Paul

  11. I do not favor any avg scores so I now favor either Paul stays or replace him with Booker or Teague but that must stay for 7 games. If it's Booker then Tom could win 2nd place and the playoffs!??

  12. DeAnthony Melton is the 1 for the Suns even when Booker plays he had 10 assists last night that's why they cut Rivers after the Ariza deal to leave this 2nd round kid in place

  13. Mark, Embiid wouldn't have a second chance, it would go to backup and your backup DNPed too.

  14. Swat says leave Tom's lineup with Paul as-is, as he left it.

  15. Sean: Remember, the 2nd Chance Rule is still in effect. Only after it fails do we go to the first game of the match period for the platoon backup. No second chance on the PBR. Right?

  16. Oh, and by the way, today is Supplemental Day. Use the reverse order of the Match 24 standings posted here, with the exception of Wingo picking behind Ticket, who has dropped to third place. Fire at will.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hey Dave. Will you post a supplemental header? Just in case anybody wants to make a move?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Sean we only check backup after starter misses 2 games Embiid 41 does count. If he missed the 2nd game then Kanter would dnp

  19. Mark, that's fine, I just clarified that after reviewing every blog post since we began this season, 45-minutes I will never get back in my life, to find some posting about my first 5 games supposedly being at 2-3 and not 3-2, with my current 13-12 mark, not 12-13 and tied with ETeam.

    OF WHICH I FOUND NOTHING.

  20. Sean: I had a feeling you weren't going to be thrilled about the error.
I sent an email with an attachment that shows scores from every match this season. Maybe Dave will post it on Hoop 2000. Just go back to the first five matches.
Mark knew there was something amiss two months ago and said as much, I just didn't get around to compiling all the scores in one place until today. My bad.
